Our Stories

Hello, I am Kexin. I am a mummy to a beautiful toddler. I am also a Child Specialist that provide pediatric care to babies and children. I have vast experience in treating newborn babies, as well as older children for more than 10 years. I am a certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant as well who is passionate to help mums to get the sleep they long for, and to teach their children the skills they needed to sleep on their own. I am a huge advocate of play-based learning and love creating playful experiences for my own daughter. I am especially passionate about the benefits of sensory play in early childhood.

As a working mom, I had tons of household projects to do. Lots of cleaning. Lots of administrative things like appointments. Oh, and all the picking up toys and making dinner, grocery shopping and it was all just too much. On top of that, I have a full-time job! With a toddler in hand, it feels like the days were endlessly long and ran on forever and yet, somehow, I never got anything done. Finding time for myself is difficult, sometimes it even feels like it’s impossible. At one point, I felt all the stresses of life and my responsibilities come to a head. I was constantly searching for activities to do with my daughter. I bought lots of toys that I thought she would LOVE to play with, that will occupy her time so much so I can complete my tasks. But she just couldn’t be more interested in them. I did a lot of research and readings. From there, I learn what ‘play’ is. That was when I found out about the benefits of sensory play. Play isn’t just fun, it’s essential to a child’s cognitive, emotional and social development.

Sensory play with open ended materials like dough, rice, sand help children to play independently, open their imagination, increase attention span, provide opportunity to problem-solving, build self-confidence and self-esteem. We begin our journey into the world of sensory play. We noticed her attention span lengthen, her creativity thrives and we were able to spend quality time together as a family! Nothing makes us happier than her being curious, focus and engaged. With that, 5 Senses was born.

We are committed to supporting parenthood and the development of every child through sensory play, no matter what the day brings. We aim to make every small or big step in a child’s development more enjoyable. We hope to support both mums and dads through the many challenges of parenthood. We strongly believe that, the senses, being the explorers of the world, open the way to knowledge.

Happy sensory-playing!
